Columbia, MD -
Tajah Goodman (Washington, D.C./South Hagerstown) hit four three pointers in the second half as she led the Dragons to a huge come from behind win over the mighty Montgomery Raptors 59-55.
The Raptors came into the game with a 15-3 record and were undefeated in regional play and looked the part early on jumping out to a big lead. The Dragons slowly clawed their way back and used a 9-0 run midway through the third quarter with
Kori People (Washington, D.C./Central) hitting two from long range and Goodman knocking another down to give the Dragons their first lead of the game at 39-38. Montgomery answered back with some big shots of their own and led by four going into the final quarter.Â
Goodman was the catalyst to bring the Dragons back once again as she hit a couple of critical shots along with a
Kalani Corkeron (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) three pointer to put Howard ahead 50-47. Montgomery regained the lead, but two late free throws by
India Young (Springdale, MD/Charles H. Flowers) gave the lead back to the home side before a three pointer by the Raptors tied the game at 55-55. Young made the play of the game on the ensuing possession as she fought her way to grab an offensive rebound and scored the put-back to give the Dragons the lead for good as they closed the game out with free throws.
People and Goodman both scored 16 in the game while a strong first quarter by
Madison Carey (Brandywine, MD/Frederick Douglass) saw her end with 11 points and nine rebounds.Â
The Dragons will get one day to rest before hosting Potomac State on Wednesday, February 16 at 5 PM.
