Essex, MD - The Dragons played a fantastic first quarter to threaten the #3 ranked CCBC Essex Knights (30-0), but ultimately faltered against the high powered Knights as they lost 101-46.
Howard came out playing great basketball, working the ball inside to
Madison Carey (Brandywine, MD/Frederick Douglass) who scored eight points in the opening 10 minutes of play with
Tajah Goodman (Washington, D.C./South Hagerstown) feeding her in the post effectively. The smothering Dragon defense held the Knights to 30% shooting from the floor in the first quarter and Howard had CCBC Essex sweating with the visitors ahead 18-16 after the first quarter.
The game turned after that as the high flying Knights found their groove and never looked back as they were able to pull away, particularly in the fourth quarter.
Kori People (Washington, D.C./Central) scored 17 points along with nine rebounds while Carey finished with a season high 16. Goodman scored six with a team high five assists along with a couple of steals.
The Dragons close out the regular season with a 15-9 record and locked up the #2 seed in the regional tournament. They will host CCBC Catonsville on Tuesday, March 1 at 5 PM in the Region 20 D2 tournament quarterfinals.
