Wye Mills, MD - A tough Chesapeake Skipjacks team was able to avenge a loss earlier in the season to defeat the Dragons 65-57.
The game started off as a back-and-forth heavyweight fight with the Dragons getting into the paint at will to load up on layups. The Skipjacks responded with an 8-0 run to end the first quarter and take a lead they would not relent.
Howard made some good runs back including a
Kalani Corkeron (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) corner three at the buzzer to end the half with the Dragons down by just five. Another good stretch saw
India Young (Springdale, MD/Charles H. Flowers) score four straight to make it a one point deficit at 40-39 midway through the third quarter, but Chesapeake pulled away from there to close out the game.
Kori People (Washington, D.C./Central) led the team with 14 points while Young added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Corkeron scored nine along with eight rebounds and
Tajah Goodman (Washington, D.C./South Hagerstown) scored eight.
The Dragons will stay on the road as they travel west to take on the Frederick Cougars on Saturday, February 12 at 12 PM. The Cougars are in the midst of a struggling season at 2-7 on the year.
