Cumberland, MD - The Dragons bombed three home runs in game two as a big offensive series for Howard led them to a doubleheader sweep over the Allegany Trojans 15-5 and 12-8.
The Dragons scored 10 runs in the final two innings of game one as eight Howard players collected at least one hit with five of them having multi-hit games.Â
Brittney Dix (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) led the way for Howard with a 3-4 performance including three RBI.
Sarah Phelps (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) and
Samantha Hobert (Elkridge, MD/Howard) also had three RBI a piece as well as Hobert got on base in all five plate appearances in the game.
Katelyn Burdette (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) scored five runs hitting out of the two spot as the Dragons had 14 hits, 11 walks, and three hit by pitch in the game.
Game two was much closer despite the Dragons putting up six runs in the first two innings.
Erika Goodwin (Laurel, MD/Hammond) took the mound for Howard and earned the win, but gave up five runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game up at 6-6. Howard scored two in the fourth, but two Trojan runs in the fifth once again knotted the game up. Howard scored one run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to pull away and secure the sweep.
Burdette, Goodwin, and
Grace Tolle (Woodstock, MD/Marriotts Ridge) all hit home runs in the game as Burdette had a 5-5 day at the plate to lead the Dragons to victory.Â
