Skipjacks Sweep Dragons in High Scoring Series

Wye Mills, MD – The high powered Chesapeake Skipjacks utilized the long ball early and often to hit their way past the Dragons 12-4 and 23-7.

The Dragons got out to a fantastic start as Grace Tolle (Woodstock, MD/Marriotts Ridge) bombed a shot to left center for her fourth home run of the year to put Howard ahead 2-0 in the first. Chesapeake would go on to score 11 unanswered runs to take an 11-2 lead after four.

Howard pulled a couple back in the fifth when Hailey Adams took a pitch to the leg followed by a Katelyn Burdette (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) moon shot over the center field fence to make it 11-4, but a walk-off home run by the Skipjacks closed the game out in five innings.

Burdette did a great job to start game two strong once again with a line drive double to the gap, then scoring when a Sage Huber (West Friendship, MD/Glenelg) bunt single was thrown away. Huber advanced to third on the error and then scored on a Tolle line drive down the third base line to once again make it a 2-0 Howard lead. Chesapeake answered back with 23 runs over the first four innings, but the Dragons pulled back four in the top of the fifth with RBI singles from Brittney Dix (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach), Sarah Phelps (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial), and Danielle Thompson (Frederick, MD/Tuscarora).

The Dragons will look to get back to their winning ways when they host Corning Community College on Tuesday, March 29 at 1 PM.
