Columbia, MD - The Dragons struggled to get their bats going as the Corning Red Barons swept Howard 8-0 then 18-2 in the doubleheader sweep.
Corning starting pitcher Emily McCreery held the Dragons to just three hits in game one, needing just 59 pitches to earn the complete game win. Howard started
Erika Goodwin (Laurel, MD/Hammond), but she only lasted one inning before
Samantha Hobert (Elkridge, MD/Howard) took over for the rest of the game on the mound.
Game two started with the Dragons batting first and got out to a great start as
Katelyn Burdette (Frederick, MD/Walkersville)Â crushed a leadoff home run over the left field fence.
Sage Huber (West Friendship, MD/Glenelg) followed that up with a triple and later scored on a
Grace Tolle (Woodstock, MD/Marriotts Ridge) sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead.
That was followed up with Corning scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first as part of 18 unanswered runs to take the sweep.
Howard will look to rebound in a big regional matchup against CCBC Catonsville on Saturday, March 2 at 12 PM.
