Columbia, MD - The Howard Community College women's soccer team, with a new head coach and a squad mostly consisting of freshmen, kick off their 2022 season in style as they travel to Tennessee to face two of the top six nationally ranked teams in the preseason poll.
The Dragons will face off against #6 ranked Jones College to start the season on August 26 in Knoxville, TN followed by a matchup against #5 ranked Holmes CC the following day. Howard will go on another long road trip immediately after, going to upstate New York to take on Monroe CC and Genessee CC over the labor day weekend. That is followed by arguably the biggest regular season match of the year for the Dragons as they will travel to rival CCBC Essex on September 6 under the lights of a 7 PM showdown.
Howard's first home game will be on Saturday, September 10 against Brookdale. The following weekend, the Dragon Invitational will take place as four teams square off in four games over two days including Sussex, Union, and CCBC Essex.
The Dragons homestand continues after that, with Hagerstown, Anne Arunel, and Mercer all coming to the Dragons Lair. After three more road games in a row at Potomac State, Frederick, and Southern Maryland, the regular season finale will see Howard host Harford on October 19.
Just three returners from last year's team remain as the Dragons under head coach
Shannon Riley will see 11 new faces in maroon. Sophomore star forward
Molly Nichols (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) will look to add to her impressive first campaign while
Sofia Pulone (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) will continue to anchor the defensive line.
