Columbia, MD - Howard Community College hosted the women's soccer Dragon Invitational over the weekend with the host team suffering a 3-2 loss to Union County and a 7-0 loss to Sussex County.
The Dragons jumped out to an early lead in the game as
Jaylene Sotelo (/) scored her second goal of the season off a
Molly Nichols (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) cross in the 13th minute.
Melissa Villatoro (Riverdale, MD/Parkdale) doubled the lead with her first goal of the season when she was set open on a
Mireida Castillo (Falls Church, VA/Falls Church) through ball as Villatoro chipped the goalkeeper into an open net.
Union countered back with two goals in the first half to tie the game at 2-2, then scored the eventual game winner in the 81st minute against the run of play as Howard out-shot Union 25-15 on the day.
On day two, Sussex County controlled possession of the game as they jumped out to a 7-0 victory. Howard was only able to get two shots in the game, both coming from
Casey Boin (Ellicott City, MD/Mount De Sales), while goalkeeper
Giselle Castillo (Falls Church, VA/Justice) made 15 saves in the game.
The Dragons will look to get some positive momentum when they take on Hagerstown on Thursday, 22 at 4 PM.
