Dragons Fly Past Hawks 4-1

Columbia, MD - Howard played their best game of the season as they were able to hit for four goals against the Hagerstown Hawks in a decisive victory.

The Dragons dominated possession and scoring chances throughout the entire first half, but were unable to score in the first 35 minutes of the game. Howard finally broke through with 10 minutes left in the first half when Molly Nichols (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) hit a cross from the right side that trickled out to Mireida Castillo (Falls Church, VA/Falls Church) who's shot was powered into the bottom left corner of the net. Howard made it 2-0 four minutes later as it was Nichols again busting down the right side as she put a cross into the path of Jaylene Sotelo (/) who hit the same corner as Castillo to double the lead.

Howard made it 3-0 in the last minute of the first half as a Sotelo free kick was curled to the back post as Madison Dzubak (Highland, MD/River Hill) was able to tap the ball in from close range.

Hagerstown was able to strike back with a quick goal in the second half to make the lead uncomfortable for the Howard faithful. The Dragons kept pushing forward and their efforts paid off again in the 83rd minute. A well played connection between Sotelo and Nichols saw a cross go to Castillo, who took a shot off the cross bar that fell to Dzubak for her to tap in once again for her second goal of the game.

The Dragons defensive line held it down from there as the foursome of Sage Huber (West Friendship, MD/Glenelg), Sarah Woods (Laurel, MD/Reservoir), Sophie Pulone, and Katelyn Burdette (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) played outstanding with goalkeeper Giselle Castillo (Falls Church, VA/Justice) making seven saves to earn her first win of the year in goal.

Howard will get some time to rest up before hosting Anne Arundel on Wednesday, September 28 at 4 PM.
