Columbia, MD - A late burst by the Dragons fell just short as Howard fell to the Harford Fighting Owls 2-1.
The Fighting Owls controlled much of the possession in the first half, with their efforts finally rewarded with a pair of goals in the final two minutes of the first half.
Howard came back swinging in the second half, forcing Harford goalkeeper Emanuele Moretti into four second half saves. The Dragons were finally able to break through in the 83rd minute as
Abdoul Camara (/High Point) hit a through ball over the top that
Mahmoud Mansour (Laurel, MD/Home School) was able to latch onto and score from the middle of the 18 yard box for his third of the season to halve the Harford lead.
The Dragons had two more chances late as a
Jason Fuentes (/Hammond) corner kick found Camara in the box, only to see the shot go wide. Camara forced one last save from Moretti with 20 seconds left to play, but the ensuing corner kick was not able to produce the tying goal.
Jeffrey Fuentes led the team with four shots, two of them on goal while Howard goalkeeper
Jessie Sanchez (/Laurel) tallied four saves in the contest.
Howard will look to rebound with another home contest, this time hosting Cecil on Thursday, September 8 at 4 PM.
