Columbia, MD - A powerful Southern Maryland Hawks side swept through the Dragons 25-13, 25-10, 25-22.
The Hawks came out hitting hard from the start as the Dragons looked to stay tough on the defensive side. Southern Maryland took control in the first two sets as they were able to withstand the Howard hitters' best shots.
Howard recovered well in the third set as a big run saw them come from behind to tie the set at 22-22 on a big shot by
Sydnei Harmon (Largo, MD/Flowers). Unfortunately the comeback ended there as the Hawks won the last three points to close out the match.
Vanessa Miller (Germantown, MD/Gaithersburg) hit for eight kills while also tallying 11 digs, leading the team in both categories. Harmon finished with six kills while
Makayla Holland (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) added five.Â
The Dragons now sit in 8th place in the region at 6-7 as they try to hold on to a playoff spot. They will next travel to Chesapeake College on Tuesday, October 10 at 6 PM.
