Fired Up Dragons Soar Past Trojans

Cumberland, MD - Unstoppable on offense, Dragons take down the Trojans of Allegany College 79-32 in their final match of the Personal Best Classic.

Dragons working hard on defense to keep the Trojans away from the rim, run away with a 20 point lead made possible with a bucket by Jaylah Putman (Jacksonville, FL/Long Reach) in the final seconds of the first quarter.

Heading into the second, Dragons keep a strong lead over the Trojans with a 29 point deficit at 37-8. Trojans looked to chip away at the score and find themselves on a 10-0 scoring run with 2:38 left in the second quarter. Howard regaining possession in final seconds and retains their lead going into halftime up 39-18.

Howard continuing to keep the ball rolling with a 10-0 scoring run out of the lockeroom, and find themselves with their biggest lead of the game sitting at 49-18. The Trojans get a chance to answer back with a quick bucket in the paint and 5:10 left on the clock and go on a 4-0 scoring run of their own. Jaylah Putman (Jacksonville, FL/Long Reach) knocks down a big three-pointer for the Dragons and they seize the quarter up 55-24.

Howard continued to widen their lead in the fourth quarter with back to back buckets for Ruth Kapangala (Burtonsville, MD/Paint Branch) and 6:29 left to go in the game. A 63-28 deficit for the Trojans, and the Dragons offense just not letting up after a number of turnovers open things up for Dragon's own, Asaani Offer (Annapolis, MD/Catonsville) with a few quick post moves to increase the lead. Lania Nick (Annapolis, MD/Glen Burnie) and Jenna Ehlers (Philadelphia, PA/Solanco) knocked down two three-pointers back to back for Howard, creating a 43-point gap with Allegany College, now the largest of the game. Dragons continued to hold things down on offense with two back-to-back possessions where Nick grabs an offensive rebound and putback, and a solid bucket in the paint. A score of 79-32 would hold for the final minute of the fourth. Dragons move to 4-1 ob the season.

Sydnei Harmon (Largo, MD/C.H. Flowers) led the Dragons with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Kayla Allen (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) finished with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Offer finished with nine points and seven rebounds. Madison Carey (Brandywine, MD/Frederick Douglass), Ruth Kapangala (Burtonsville, MD/Paint Branch) and Nick added 8 points each. Putman added seven points, Jenna Ehlers (Philadelphia, PA/Solanco) added six points, and Nhaikyia Smith (Waldorf, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) added four points.

The Dragons will return to action on Saturday, November 18 to take on the Bears of Harcum College for a 7 PM matchup in Bryn Mawr, PA.
