Dragons Triumph Over Riverhawks with 91-58 Win

Arnold, MD - A tremendous victory for Howard Community College women's basketball team after a 91-58 win over the Riverhawks.

Howard Community College got things going with a14-5 advantage over Anne Arundel, and with 1:30 left in the first quarter a 9-0 scoring run after a fast break pass by Madison Carey (Brandywine, MD/Frederick Douglass) and a layup by Lania Nick (Annapolis, MD/Glen Burnie) bring the lead to 23-9. Anne Arundel tacked on a few more points before the end of the first quarter, but Dragons stay ahead going into the second quarter with a 25-14 advantage.

The Dragons maintained their lead in the second quarter of the game and entered halftime with a 42-27 edge over the Riverhawks. Howard Community College dominated in the paint, scoring fourteen out of their 17 points from the field.

Coming from the locker room the Riverhawks find themselves on 7-0 run, cutting the lead to eight with 7:22 left on the clock. But the commanding Dragons continued to build momentum on the offensive side of the ball, and a wide open Jenna Ehlers (Philadelphia, PA/Solanco) knocks down a three-pointer at the conclusion of the third, to give the Dragons a 25-point advantage.

Howard Community College continued to hammer away in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, going on a 7-0 run with 7:19 left to play. With only 2:00 minutes left in the contest, an offensive rebound and put back bucket for Ginikachi Anierobi (Nigeria/Loyola Jesuit College) puts the Howard Community College bench and fans on their feet as she adds two in her season debut for the Dragons. Anne Arundel somewhat chipped away at the 30 point deficit, but it was smooth sailing for the Dragons the rest of the way for the 91-58 win.
