Hagerstown, MD – A tough battle against a Maryland rival resulted in the Dragons falling to the Hagerstown Hawks 95-86. The loss ends the Dragons winning streak at 7 as they fell to 10-3 on the season while Hagerstown improves to 7-6 on the year.
The Dragons fell behind 7-0 early in the game before
O'Meech Wilson (Glen Burnie, MD/North County) fought through traffic to put in layups on back-to-back possessions to get the Dragons on the scoreboard. Despite closing the gap, Howard still trailed Hagerstown 47-41 at halftime.
Howard took their first lead of the game early in the second half as
Shane Taylor (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) hit a three pointer followed by a
Christian Dean (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) layup to put Howard up by three. Hagerstown answered back with a 7-0 run to regain the lead, building it as high 6 midway through the second half.
Ryan Conway (Towson, MD/Dulaney) hit a couple of three pointers to keep the Dragons within striking range, but Howard went on a four minute scoring drought as the Hawks improved their lead to 8.
Taylor once again hit a massive three pointer to break the streak followed by an
Andrew Mills (Owings Mills, MD/New Town) hoop and harm. The Dragons forced a turnover followed by Mills hitting two more free throws to cut the deficit down to 3. The Hawks never let the Dragons get that close again as they made 6 straight free throws to close out the game.
Mills led the Dragons with 22 points and 6 rebounds followed closely by Taylor with 19 points. Wilson scored 13 while
Jalen Bowie (Frederick, MD/Frederick) scored 10. Hagerstown's 95 points are the most the Dragons have allowed in a game this season and the most allowed since January 19, 2019.
The Dragons will now prepare for the Harford Hoops Classic where they will begin by taking on Delaware Tech on Friday, December 15 at 5 PM. The two teams met just a month ago at the Cecil College Mixer where the Dragons won the match 93-52.
