Keyser, WV - A dominating inside presence by the Howard Dragons made for a comfortable win on the road, defeating the Potomac State Catamounts 92-68. The win improves Howard to 9-1 in regional play, needing just one more win in regional play to secure the #1 seed for the Region 20 tournament.
The initial 15 minutes of the game stayed close until an 8-0 run led by a couple of
Ethan Wilson (Manassas, VA/Osbourn Park) three pointers on consecutive possessions spurred the Dragons ahead. Tough layups by
Koby Baptiste (New Carrollton, MD/Parkdale) and
Marquis Freeman (Manassas, VA/Fork Union Prep) in the final minute of the first half gave Howard a comfortable 47-34 lead at halftime.
Howard continued to keep Potomac State stifled in the second half, extending the lead up to 26 points late in the game fueled by 49 points in the pain for the Dragons as the Dragons shot 69% from the field in the first half and 59% for the game in one of their most effective offensive showings of the season.
Andrew Mills (Owings Mills, MD/Newtown) led the Dragons with 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Baptiste scored 16 points with 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the year. Wilson finished with 14 points followed closely by Freeman with 13 and
Jalen Bowie (Frederick, MD/Frederick) with 10.
The Dragons will look to make it a third straight year of 20+ wins when they travel to Anne Arundel on Tuesday, February 21 at 6 PM. The two teams faced off earlier in the season with the Dragons emerging victorious 108-47 back on November 7.
