Box Score 2 Westmoreland, PA - The Howard Dragons were able to avenge an early season loss to Anne Arundel as they defeated the Riverhawks in four sets. In the final game of the tri-match, the Dragons completed the sweep with a four set win over Westmoreland County to make it four straight wins for Howard.
In the first match of the day for the Dragons, the trio of
Vanessa Miller (Germantown, MD/Gaithersburg),
Sydnei Harmon (Largo, MD/Flowers), and
Makayla Holland (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) all had double digit kills to lead Howard over their local rivals. Holland had her best match of the year with 11 kills, 23 digs, three block assists and a couple of aces. Miller added 13 kills and 15 digs while Harmon had 13 kills and six blocks.
Sarah McKenzie (Mount Airy, MD/Glenelg) had 26 assists while
Raegan Perkes (Laurel. MD/Laurel) chipped in eight assists.Â
Howard won the the first set in a tight race to the finish 25-23, but lost the second set 31-29 in an epic back and forth period. The Dragons took control after that with a 25-18 third set win and a 25-11 fourth set finale.
In the last game of the tri-match, the Dragons were able to win a critical four set victory over Westmoreland County which moved them up to 6-6 in regional play this season.
The same trio had double digit kills with Harmon leading the way with 14 kills and four blocks. Miller added 12 kills and 18 digs while Holland had 11 kills and 17 digs. McKenzie took over the setting duties for the entire match and had 34 assists on the day. Aaliyah Murfee was able to pick up a career high 12 digs in the match.
The Dragons will complete their swing through western Pennsylvania with a match at the Community College of Allegheny County on Saturday, September 30.
