Harmon and Offer Earn Double-Doubles In Victory Over Fighting Owls

Bel Air, MD - Sophomore Sydnei Harmon (Largo, MD/C.H. Flowers) and Freshman Asaani Offer (Annapolis, MD/Catonsville) both finish with Double-Doubles after a tremendous 76-43 win against the Harford Fighting Owls on the road in Bel Air, MD, on Saturday afternoon, during MDJUCO division action. 

The Dragons started out the scoring by going on a 11-0 run, to take an early lead with 6:10 left in the first quarter. Layups from both Harmon and Mikiyah Mallett (Pasadena, MD/Old Mill) put the Dragons ahead by 14 points, but a big response from the Fighting Owls with a fast break layup, and back-to-back three-pointers to bring them within 7 points. Before the end of the quarter, Jaylah Putman (Jacksonville, FL/Long Reach) was able to finish at the rack to add four points in the paint. Dragons extend their lead to nine before the end of the quarter, and entered the break with a 22-13 advantage. 

Howard continued to apply pressure heading into the second quarter, highlighted by a three from Nhaikyia Smith (Waldorf, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) to increase its lead to 25-18. The Fighting Owls cut into that lead and bring the contest back within 7 points once more with 6:26 left. Harmon with a run of her own for the Dragons, able to get to the rack four times to add 8 points and one from the line for a 34-25 lead. One final layup going into halftime, and the Dragons were able to enjoy a 36-25 advantage heading into halftime. 

Howard continued to keep a steady pace in the third quarter, scoring 18 points in 10 minutes of play as Madison Carey (Brandywine, MD/Frederick Douglass) and Asaani Offer (Annapolis, MD/Catonsville) pushed the ball into the paint to get effective offensive possessions. The Dragons continue to strive for victory in the fourth quarter. Jenna Ehlers (Philadelphia, PA/Solanco) opens up scoring in the fourth after a steal from Putman, makes way for a quick layup to push the Dragons ahead by 20. The Dragons turned 9 turnovers into 11 points on the way to scoring 22 total points in the quarter. In the final minutes, Jenna Ehlers (Philadelphia, PA/Solanco) knocks down a three and adds another at the rack, earning a total of twelve of 22 of the Dragons points in the fourth. The Dragons held on for the victory and take a 76-43 road win back home to the Dragon's lair. 

Harmon led the way for the Dragons, and earns a double-double, finishing with 14 points and twelve rebounds. Smith and Ehlers finished with 12 points each, Smith grabbed seven rebounds and Ehlers grabbed three rebounds. Offer earned her first double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and twelve rebounds. Putman added 10 points and five rebounds, Carey added 8 points and eight boards. Mallet added 7 points for the Dragons and nine rebounds while Zakiyyah Brown (Upper Marlboro, MD/Friendship Collegiate Academy) chipped in with 2 points, four assists and two steals. 

Howard Community College will have a bit of a break before they are back on the road to face the Prince George's Community College Owls at 5 PM, on Friday, January 26.
