Southeastern Sweeps Howard

WHITEVILLE, NC - The Howard CC softball team completed their arduous three day adventure through North Carolina as they fell to Southeastern-Whiteville by the scores of 12-4 and 8-0.

The Dragons got out to a roaring start as Taylor Pence (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) crushed a solo home run in the first inning to give Howard the lead. After Southeastern tied it up with a home run of their own, the Dragons kept mashing as Raegan Perkes (Laurel, MD/Laurel) laced an RBI double to left field that scored Madeline Lackey (Manchester, MD/Manchester Valley) followed by a Pence single up the middle to score Perkes and give the Dragons a two run lead.

Southeastern had a big six run third inning to take the lead back, but thar was answered by the second Howard home run of the day as Holly Ryan (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) got into one and hit it over the fence. The Dragons offense stalled after that as they couldn't complete the comeback, falling 12-4 after six innings. The Dragons had four different pitchers to get through the game as the 6 games in three days took its toll on the Howard pitching staff.

With fatigue setting in, Kat Wisor (Crofton, MD/Arundel) took the hill for game two and was able to grit her way through a complete game, picking up five strikeouts along the way. Unfortunately for the Dragons, Howard only managed five hits in the game with the lone extra base hit being a Ryan double as the Dragons were shut out.

The Dragons will return back to Maryland and enjoy their home opener on Sunday, March 3 as they host the Allegany Trojans for a 4 PM first pitch. The Trojans have yet to play a game so far this season and it will be the first in-region game for both teams.
