CATONSVILLE, MD - The Dragons fought back after a tough game one to battle in game two, but ultimately were swept in the doubleheader at CCBC Catonsville 8-2 and 6-5.
Game one started out great for the Dragons as
Jordan Bayles (Laurel, MD/Spencerville Adventist) doubled in
Raegan Perkes (Laurel, MD/Laurel). The Howard bats went cold for awhile after that until the sixth inning when Perkes hit a triple to deep left field then scoring as Bayles drove her in again. The Dragons scattered a few other hits throughout the game, but ultimately could not keep pace with the Cardinals.
Howard fell behind early in game two, but the Dragons fought back in the top of the second as
Giana Sablan (Guam/Our Lady of Guam) laced an RBI single to center that scored
Alyssa Kelly (Laurel, MD/Reservoir). Sablan would later take home on a double steal as the Dragons took the lead. The Cardinals stormed back in the bottom of the third with a big three run home run to take the lead back as the game continued to swing back and forth.
Kat Wisor (Crofton, MD/Arundel) drove in Perkes in the top of the fifth to halve the lead, but a two run homer by Catonsville in the bottom half opened up the lead once more.Â
The Dragons started their comeback in the top of the sixth with a
Holly Ryan (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) double followed by a Sablan single to put the tying run at the plate.
Madeline Lackey (Manchester, MD/Manchester Valley) came up with one out and was able to drive in both runners and make it a one run game. Howard had one last chance in the seventh inning as Wisor got on base as the tying run, but the Dragons were unable to complete the rally. Wisor pitched a gem in game two, giving up five hits and just three earned runs with four strikeouts.
Howard will continue their regional play as they next go to Anne Arundel on Saturday, March 16 for a 12 PM doubleheader.
