KEYSER, WV - The Dragons nearly missed stealing a game against the Potomac State Catamounts, ultimately falling 5-2 & 25-1 in the doubleheader loss for Howard. The Dragons fall to 3-17 on the season and 3-7 in regional play.
Game one started out great for the Dragons as
Kat Wisor (Crofton, MD/Arundel) struck out the side in the first inning as part of recording seven straight outs. The scoreless start to the game finally was broken in the top of the fourth inning as Gianna Sablan doubled followed by a two-out two-run homer by
Holly Ryan (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) to give Howard the lead. Potomac State answered right back in the bottom half with a couple of runs to tie the game at 2-2.Â
The Dragons had a rally started in the top of the fifth as
Madeline Lackey (Manchester, MD/Manchester Valley) walked,
Raegan Perkes (Laurel, MD/Laurel) singled, and
Taylor Pence (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) was hit by a pitch, but Howard was unable to put any runs across. The Catamounts were able to capitalize in the bottom of the fifth with a two run double with two outs to take the lead at 4-2. Potomac State added another fun in the bottom of the sixth with the Dragons unable to answer.
Game two did not go as planned for the Dragons, as Potomac State took advantage of defensive miscues to put 25 runs across. The Dragons did manage to get a run in the third inning as
Alyssa Kelly (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) drove in Sablan with the bases loaded.Â
The Dragons will finally return home for just their second home date of the season when they host Harford on Tuesday, April 9 at 3 PM. The Fighting Owls are currently 14-6 on the season as the Dragons look to win their first game against the powerhouse Harford program in their short history.
