Columbia, MD - The Howard Community College women's soccer team fell in their season opener 9-0 to Hagerstown on Tuesday afternoon.
Battling both the elements and the Hawks, the Dragons got a few shots off early, but struggled to get deep into Hagerstown territory later in the contest.
Forward
Kaily Ok (Hanover, MD/Marriotts Ridge) provided the best offensive chances for the Dragons, getting off two shots before the Hawks defense clamped down.
With starting goalkeeper
Alexa Sosa (Laurel, MD/Laurel) unavailable, the Dragons turned to
Rashelle Buynum (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills)Â to start the contest in goal. Despite never playing goalkeeper before, Buynum recorded two excellent saves before switching places with
Yoselin Ortiz Cruz (Alexandria, VA/Alexandria City) in the second half. Cruz managed to stop four shots, including a leaping save with minutes to go.
Despite the loss, the Dragons are looking forward to their second game of the year, an away contest against Carroll Community College on August 30 at 4PM.
