Columbia, MD - The Howard Community College Dragons men's soccer team exploded for six goals on Thursday afternoon, defeating Cecil College 6-0.
Led by a hat-trick from
Fode Doumbouya (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook), the Dragons tied their season high in goals. Three different Dragons scored as Howard now stands as the only undefeated team in Region 20 Division II.
Doumbouya scored the games first goal off a pass from
Darian Paz (Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) just three minutes into the contest. The second goal would come shortly after as
Sam Santos (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) scored in the 19th minute. The rest of the first half was scoreless; despite multiple attempts, the Dragons came up short to a stiffening Cecil defense. Howard's defense, led by NJCAA Goalie of the Week
Luke Ryerson (Ellicott City, MD/Howard), responded by keeping the Seahawks scoreless.
The second half kicked off with Doumbouya's second goal of the game in the 46th minute. Doumbouya responded with another goal in the 67th minute for a hat-trick.
Darian Paz (Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) would add to the scoring onslaught with a goal in the 77th minute, then a second goal off a penalty shot in the 83rd. Paz's goals gave the Dragons a 6-0 victory, tying their goal total set against Hagerstown in the opener.
Doumbouya was a perfect three for three, with thee shots on goal for three goals. Santos scored once off nine shots, while Paz scored twice off four shots.
Truce Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) added six shots with four on goal, while
Bryan Barrientos (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) had five shots.
Chris Herzog (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) came off the bench to add three shots, while
Bliden Elung (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) nearly scored his first career goal that was overturned due to an offsides call.
Luke Ryerson (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) recorded his fourth shutout of the season with five saves.
