Elung, Moore Score First Goals of Year in 5-1 Win

Columbia, MD - The Howard Community College Dragons continued their domination of Region 20 on Sunday, defeating the WVU Potomac State College Catamounts 5-1.

On a day in which they out-shot their opponent 41 to eight, the Dragons saw five different players score a goal. Mateo Moore (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) and Bliden Elung (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) both scored their first career goals, while Fode Doumbouya (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Aided by five yellow cards and one ejection for the Catamounts, the Dragons dominated the contest from start to finish.

The Dragons started hot, scoring first in the eleventh minute. A Mateo Moore (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) pass was sent in courtesy of Darian Paz (Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford), giving the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Potomac State tightened up on defense, holding the Dragons scoreless until the 36th minute. Fode Doumbouya (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) added his seventh goal of the season to make it 2-0.

The Catamounts would get on the board just before the half, making it 2-1. With Potomac State improving on offense, the Dragons needed an insurance goal to turn the tide. They would get one as Moore scored unassisted in the 55th minute. With the momentum turned, the Dragons poured on the scoring. Truce Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) added a goal in the 67th minute, and Bliden Elung (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) scored his first career goal in the 87th minute to wrap up to 5-1 win.

Elung finished the contest with seven shots, six shots on goal, and a goal. Moore had four shots on goal, one goal, and an assist. Norton had five shots and four shots on goal to go along with his goal, while Doumbouya recorded nine shots, five shots on goal, and his lone score.

Next up for the Dragons is a rematch with the Catamounts on Tuesday, September 17 at 7PM.
