Dragons Winning Streak Snapped by Cougars

Frederick, MD - The six game winning streak to open the season for Howard Community College's men's soccer team was snapped on Tuesday night, as the Dragons fell to Frederick Community College 3-2.

On a rainy evening, the Dragons explosive offense was kept in check for the first time this season. Howard managed only 14 shots, a season low, and struggled to move the ball against the Cougars defense.

Frederick would strike first in the seventh minute, scoring off a nice shot by Alexandro Angelo Moreno. Howard managed five shots in the first half but trailed 1-0. Early in the second, Darian Paz (Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) scored off a pass from Sam Santos (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) and Truce Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills). Tied at one apiece, the Dragons frantically attacked Frederick's defense to try and break the tie. It didn't work for them, as the Cougars scored twice to make it 3-1. With one minute remaining, the Dragons managed to get a goal back as Tomas Lopez (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) scored his first career goal off a Truce Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) pass. There wasn't enough time left for the Dragons to get the ball back, as Frederick held on for the 3-2 win.

Paz's lone shot of the game would be his only goal. Lopez had a stand-out game, scoring his first career goal as a member of the Dragons. Santos finished with three shots, two shots on goal and an assist, while Norton added two assists and two shots.

The Dragon's next opponent is Montgomery College on Thursday, September 26 at 7:00 PM.
