Louisburg, NC - A 34-point fourth quarter swing was the difference maker for the Howard Community College Dragons as they lost their first game of the season last Saturday to the Louisburg College Hurricanes 71-60.
Howard led for most of Saturday afternoon's contest, but a 34-12 Hurricane run in the fourth quarter ended any chance of a Dragons victory. The loss moves the Dragons to 3-1 on the season.
The Dragons took an early 19-13 lead, spurred by tough shots from
Hannah Chambers (Columbia, MD/Hammond) and
London Galbraith (Washington, D.C./Friendship Collegiate Academy). Louisburg began to pull back into the contest, taking advantage of 18 turnovers from the Dragons. Howard still held a slim lead heading into the second half, before a massive fourth quarter saw the Hurricanes draw away.
Galbraith led the Dragons in scoring with 18 points, while
Savannah Price (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom) had a breakout game off the bench with 17 points. Chambers scored seven points along with a block and a steal, while
Jolie Hamilton (Baltimore, MD/Forest Park) provided crucial action off the bench with six points, a team-high eight rebounds, and three steals.Â
Howard next faces Wake Tech on Sunday at 12:00 to wrap up the Louisburg 401 Classic Tournament.
