Columbia, MD - London Galbraith (Washington, D.C./Friendship Collegiate Academy) had her breakout game against her former team Wednesday night as the Howard Community College Dragons smashed the Baltimore City Community College Panthers 72-22 in a 50-point blowout win!
The Dragons picked up their biggest win since blowing out Erie Community College last February 94-35. Galbraith scored 13 points in her revenge game against the Panthers, while
Jolie Hamilton (Baltimore, MD/Forest Park) secured a double-double as Howard's defense nearly held the Panthers scoreless in two quarters. The win moves the Dragons to 3-0 on the season, the third time in the last four years they have done so.
Wednesday's game didn't feel like it would be a blowout in the opening quarter, as the Dragons and Panthers combined for just 17 total points. Howard found themselves down 7-1 to the Panthers before Hamilton sparked the offense with six points off the bench. Leading 9-8 after one, the Dragons dug in and held BCCC scoreless until the final seconds of the second quarter. Galbraith erupted for 12 points in the second alone as the Dragons led 37-11 at the half.
The second half kicked off with a bang as Howard outscored the Panthers 16-9.
Naomi Williams (Odenton, MD/Meade) came alive in the paint, drawing crucial free throws to extend the lead. Jasmie Dailey would add four points off the bench, while Hamilton and
Savannah Price (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom) gobbled up ten total rebounds. The Dragons continued their domination into the fourth, outscoring the Panthers 19-2 and out-rebounding them 25-10.
McKenzi Walters (Falls Church, VA/George C. Marshall) came alive, recording four points, five rebounds, a block, and a steal in the quarter alone, while tough drives from Williams and
Laila Stevens (Philadelphia, PA/Lower Merion) drew crucial fouls that sent two Panthers to the bench. When all was said and done, Howard had a 50-point lead at the buzzer.
Galbraith had herself the perfect revenge game, scoring 13 points, three assists, and a steal over her former team. Hamilton recorded the second double-double of the season, contributing 12 points and 15 rebounds. Dailey was excellent off the bench, scoring nine points, six rebounds, and three steals. Williams had her breakout game as a Dragon, scoring eight points and nine rebounds as she narrowly missed a double-double.
Laila Stevens (Philadelphia, PA/Lower Merion) was a pure ball hawk, scoring eight points, two rebounds, four assists, and four steals, while
Adriel Oga (Randallstown, MD/Randallstown) hit a pair of threes for eight points, four rebounds, and three steals. Walters continued to hold down the fort on defense with six points, nine rebounds, and three steals, while fellow sophomore
Hannah Chambers (Columbia, MD/Hammond) added six points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Emmanuella Oga (Randallstown, MD/Randallstown) and
Savannah Price (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom) may not have had big scoring nights, but five rebounds from each player helped boost the Dragons to 71 total boards on the night.
The Dragons next head to their first road contest of the season as they partake in the Louisburg Tipoff Classic this weekend. HCC will face Louisburg College on Saturday, November 8 at 2:00 PM, then take on Wake Tech at 12:00 PM on Sunday, November 9.
