Dragons Struggle in Poor Shooting Night Against Catamounts

Keyser, WV - The Howard Community College women's basketball team struggled offensively and defensively in a tough match up on Wednesday night, falling 67–43 to the WVU Potomac State College Catamounts in a rematch of last season's Region 20 quarterfinal loss.

Potomac State came out firing, knocking down early shots and tightening the pressure on defense. Howard worked hard to keep pace, trading baskets in the first period which finished in a 13-13 tie. Unfortunately the rhythm never quite settled in their favor. Missed layups, rushed jumpers, and a few unlucky bounces started to pile up, and suddenly the Dragons found themselves playing from behind.

By halftime, the gap had widened. Still, Howard refused to fold. The Dragons returned to the court with renewed determination, fighting for every rebound, every loose ball, and every possession. There were flashes, strong drives to the basket, and tough defensive moments. But the poor shooting from the field proved to be too much to overcome.

The Dragons scored single digits in back to back quarters and only four points in the third. On a rare occasion, there were no Dragons in double figures scoring. London Galbraith (Washington, D.C./Friendship Collegiate Academy), Savannah Price (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom), and Naomi Williams (Odenton, MD/Meade) all had nine points a piece. When the final horn sounded, Howard fell 67-43, though the score didn't fully capture their effort or heart.

Despite the loss, the game showed glimpses of the team's potential. The Dragons will try to get back in the win column today, December 11, at Garrett College at 5:00 PM.
