McHenry, MD- Howard Community College men's basketball delivered a dominant performance from start to finish, cruising past Garrett College in a convincing blowout victory last Thursday.
From the opening tip, the Dragons set the tone with relentless defensive pressure and a fast-paced offensive attack. Myles McDuffie (Baltimore, MD/Lake Clifton) led the scoring charge for the Dragons with 14 points. Thanks to him, Howard was able to jump out to an early lead, forcing turnovers and converting them into easy transition buckets. By the midway point of the first half, the Dragons had already created significant separation, using crisp ball movement and balanced scoring to keep Garrett on its heels.
The Dragons continued to pour it on in the second half, showing depth and discipline on both ends of the floor. Sincere Barfield (Philadelphia, PA/Patterson) finished with 11 points and knocked down three shots from the perimeter. Off the bench came the Dragons second leading scorer Evin Thompson (Silver Spring, MD/Sherwood), who came into the game with energy from the start and ended with 12 points and two threes. The contribution from everywhere never allowed Garrett College to find any rhythm. Every lineup contributed, as HCC's bench maintained the intensity and extended the lead even further.
Defensively, the Dragons were locked in all night, contesting shots and cleaning up the glass to limit second-chance opportunities. The effort led to multiple scoring runs that put the game well out of reach long before the final buzzer. The cherry on top was a thunderous two-handed jam from freshman Zion Dixon (District Heights, MD/Largo) that put the exclamation point on the 76-47 victory. The blowout win showcased Howard Community College's complete team performance and set the tone for momentum moving forward.
The Dragons will return to action on December 20 as they partake in the Montgomery College Holiday Tournament. There first match will be against Bryant & Stratton College at 3:00 PM.
