Fourth Quarter Collapse Sees Dragons Fall to Wake Tech

Rockville, MD - The Howard Community College Dragons led by three entering the fourth quarter of Saturday's showdown with Wake Tech. By the end of the game, they had fallen 64-58 for their eighth loss of the season.

A 13-0 run by Wake Tech to open the fourth quarter doomed the Dragons, as they were swept on the season by the Eagles. Four Dragons scored in double digits, but the improved Dragon offense couldn't solve HCC's problems.

The Dragons got off to a slow start, trailing 18-11 after the first quarter. It took bench work from Naomi Williams (Odenton, MD/Meade) and Savannah Price (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom) to kick-start the Dragons offense, and by the second they had found their rhythm. Emmanuella Oga (Randallstown, MD/Randallstown) came alive with two big threes, and the defense held the Eagles to just ten points. Howard trailed by just one at the half, and continued the momentum into the third quarter. Three pointers from Price and Hannah Chambers (Columbia, MD/Hammond) tied the game at 41-41, and a free throw from London Galbraith (Washington, D.C./Friendship Collegiate Academy) gave the Dragons their first lead.

At the start of the fourth, Howard led 46-43. Within five minutes they were down by ten as the Eagles opened up a 13-0 run. A Williams layup stemmed the bleeding, and the Dragons crawled back to make it a four point game. Foul trouble was beginning to set in, and the Dragons couldn't make their shots. Howard missed their final five shots as the Eagles knocked down clutch free throws to pull away with the win.

Price finished the contest with 12 points off three three-pointers, along with seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Williams had her best game of the season, notching 12 points, seven rebounds, a block, and a steal. Galbraith was the top scorer of the starters, finishing with eleven points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Hannah Chambers (Columbia, MD/Hammond) had a solid shooting night as she notched ten points, seven rebounds, two assists, a block, and two steals. Oga knocked down two three-pointers and finished the night with eight points. Jasmine Dailey (Odenton, MD/Meade) was solid off the bench with four points, five rebounds, and an assist. McKenzi Walters (Falls Church, VA/George C. Marshall) recorded a team-high four assists.

The Dragons wrap up the first half of the season on Sunday with an 11:00 AM showdown against Middlesex.
