Columbia, MD - The Howard Community College women's soccer team dropped their season opener 24-0 to Southern Maryland on Tuesday afternoon.
The Dragons struggled early in defending the goal as the Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes. The Hawks led 15-0 at the half, then added nine more goals before the game was called official in the 70th minute.
Starting goalkeeper
McKinley Deshaies (Baltimore, MD/Oakland Mills) tallied a total of six saves against a relentless Southern Maryland attack.
Kaily Ok (Hanover, MD/Marriotts Ridge) provided the lone offensive spark for Howard with one shot on goal late in the first half.
Despite the loss, this was a crucial stepping stone for the women's soccer team, and the group will look to improve following this performance.
The Dragons are looking forward to their second game of the year, another home contest against Fredrick Community College on August 29th at 4 PM.
