Columbia, MD - The Howard Community College Dragons lost their second game of the season on Friday evening, falling to the Frederick Community College Cougars 10-0.
Despite suffering a second lopsided loss, the Dragons showed much improvement on both sides of the ball. The addition of four new players to the roster gave Howard to opportunity for substitutions, keeping their stars fresh throughout the game.
Frederick was able to score twice in the opening ten minutes, then cruised to a 10-0 win afterwards. Frederick out-shot the Dragons 29-4, but Howard's defense made several strong stands to keep the score respectable. Howard's new goal keeper
Lamees Bazzi (Marriottsville, MD/Marriotts RIdge) made nine saves in her debut, while the Dragons defense led by
Olivia Mayhew (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) was able to hold Frederick in check on several possessions.
On offense, the Dragons moved the ball better than opening day, with four Dragons getting a shot off.
Kaily Ok (Hanover, MD/Marriotts Ridge),
Gabbie Taylor (Sykesville, MD/Atholton), and
Kafilat Omijori (Lagos, Nigeria/The African Church Model College) were all able to get shots off deep in Frederick territory, and
Avery Richardson (Beltsville, MD/High Point) had several breakaway plays in the final minutes.
The Dragons next face WVU Potomac State College on Tuesday, September 2 at 4:00 PM as they search for their first win of the season!
