Columbia, MD - The Howard Community College Dragons' women's soccer team lost their third straight game on Tuesday afternoon, though improvements are starting to show for the squad.
The Dragons kept Tuesday's game close, trailing 4-0 at the half. Late in the second half, the Dragons scored their first goal of the season off an unassisted shot from
Kaily Ok (Hanover, MD/Marriotts Ridge).
Unfortunately, Ok's goal wasn't enough to lift the Dragons over the WVU Potomac State Catamounts, who held on to win 8-1. For the first time this season, the Dragons were able to play the entire contest without the mercy rule being activated.
Howard's offense recorded a season-high five shots with two shots on goal. Ok recorded four of those shots and both shots on goal, while
Sadia Tariq (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) recorded the other shot. The Dragons were able to provide good pressure against Potomac State's defensive line, though the Catamounts were able to consistently answer.
On defense, goalkeeper
Lamees Bazzi (Marriottsville, MD/Marriotts RIdge) continued to improve with 12 saves on the day. The return of
Alexis Smithson (Highland, MD/River Hill) to the lineup aided the Dragons in keeping Potomac State on their toes, while
Evelyn Ortiz Torres () added excellent pressure off the bench.
Howard next faces Garrett College on Saturday, September 6 at 12:00 PM for their annual Club Day event!
