Columbia, MD - For the third straight game, the Howard Community College Dragons rolled to victory in a 5-0 shutout over the WVU Potomac State Catamounts!
The Dragons overcame a sloppy first half to score four goals in the second. Sophomore captain
Bryan Barrientos (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) scored twice, while
Yeabsira Tesfaye (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia/St. Ragueal Church) had a career day with a goal and two assists.
Howard's first half was tightly contested. While Tesfaye was able to score a stunner of a goal in the sixth minute, the Dragons received three yellow cards and failed to extend their lead.
In the second half, Howard came alive. Off a pair of passes from Tesfaye,
Bryan Barrientos (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) scored twice to extend the lead to 3-0. Freshman
Julius Marks (Punta Arenas, Costa Rica/Las Nubes School) came off the bench in the final minutes to score two additional goals, making it 5-0 at the whistle.
Howard out-shot the Catamounts 30-16, with Barrientos lighting them up with seven shots himself. Goalkeeper
Jonathan Sanchez (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) scored his second shutout of the season with five saves.
