Howard Controls Owls on Field Trip Day

Box Score

Columbia, MD - The energy in the Kahlert Foundation Complex was through the roof on Friday morning as the Howard Community Dragons hosted their second annual Field Trip Day!

Facing a red-hot Prince George's Community College team, the Dragons delivered a strong performance in a 68-60 victory over the Owls, showcasing disciplined defense and turning that into balanced scoring to secure the win.

The Dragons set the tone early with aggressive on-ball defense and efficient ball movement on offense, forcing Prince George's into tough shots while capitalizing on scoring opportunities at the other end. A put-back rim-rocker from Cedric Harville (Baltimore, MD/Ben Franklin) really swung the momentum. Harville finished the game as the second leading scorer with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Howard maintained control through the first half, using transition baskets and second-chance points to build momentum. At halftime the Dragons had built an eight point lead and the score read 37-29.

With all of the elementary schools in attendance raising the atmosphere, Howard knew they would not let their foot off the gas out of the half. Lorcan Hyndman (Sydney, Australia/Bishop O'Connell) knocked down a three less than a minute after the break. Soon after, the leading scorer for the Dragons, Myles McDuffie (Baltimore, MD/Lake Clifton), scored eight straight points. He finished with 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Owls attempted to rally in the second half, but the Dragons responded with poise, answering each run with timely baskets and continued defensive pressure. The Dragons' ability to execute in key moments helped them preserve their lead and close out the game. Prince George's made a run late in the second period to cut what was once a fourteen point lead all the way down to five. Lynn King was a huge reason for this comeback, leading the team in points and rebounds. The Dragons kept their composure and Sincere Barfield (Philadelphia, PA/Patterson) was the final Dragon in double figures with ten points, hitting two threes and leading the team in assists.

ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi and Ken Krsolovic were in the building giving their expert analysis and commentary for this game. Overall, it was a complete team effort for Howard Community College, highlighted by strong energy, smart decision-making, and consistent play on both ends of the floor. It was great to earn such a crucial victory, especially with an eager and high-energy crowd. This win marks an important step forward, as the Dragons take down one of the better teams in the region, improving their record to 11-7.

Howard will play again January 13 at 7:00 PM against Essex County College on the road.
