Columbia, MD - The final full week of September has arrived for the Howard Community College Dragons, and a full week of events is in store for Dragon Country.
Fall sports are in full swing with seven home contests this week, along with another preview of spring sports as men's lacrosse takes to the field for the first time.
The week kicks off Tuesday with a soccer doubleheader against Hagerstown Community College. Howard's men's soccer team will begin the afternoon at 2:30 PM, followed by the women's team at 4:30 PM. Hagerstown's men's team sits at 5-2-1 on the season and should be a nice challenge for the Dragons following their first loss of the season last Thursday. As for the women's team, the Dragons will look to break a three-game losing streak against a Hagerstown side sitting at 3-1-1 on the year. Both Hawks teams will provide good challenges for the Dragons.
Wednesday sees the Dragons' volleyball team take to the court for a match against Pennsylvania Highlands Community College. The Black Bears of PHCC have recently moved to Division II play and will be taking on the Dragons at 6:00 PM. Howard lost three of their four games last week, and will be eager to return to the win column against a 3-5 Black Bears squad.
Thursday features another doubleheader for the Dragons' soccer programs, with men and women facing Frederick Community College at home at 2 and 4:00 PM respectively. It's been a tough season for the Cougars' men's team, who currently sit at 1-3-2 on the season. Frederick's women's team has yet to win this season, currently sitting at 0-4-2. Both contests should be good matches for the Dragons.
The week wraps up with a packed Saturday. Men's lacrosse begins their fall season on the road against four-year opponent McDaniel College at 10:00 AM in a tune-up game. Also at 10, the Dragons' volleyball team hosts their lone home tri-match of the season, welcoming regional opponent Anne Arundel Community College and Division III powerhouse Butler County Community College. The Dragons face BC3 at 10:00 AM and AACC at 2:00 PM.
