Columbia, MD - As the last week of September phases into October, the Howard Community College Dragons find themselves busier than ever. All fall sports are in action this week, along with winter and spring sports deep into their preseasons.
The action kicks off Tuesday with a triple header of home games. Men's soccer begins the day with a match against the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks at 2:00 PM. The Dragons and Riverhawks have built up a rivalry over the last few seasons, as Howard has won the last three meetings between the two, including last year's Region 20 playoff semifinals. Women's soccer follows at 4:00 PM with the Dragons taking on the defending Region 20 champions Anne Arundel.
The triple header concludes at 7:00 PM with a women's volleyball showdown against Hagerstown Community College. Fresh off their massive win over #13 Butler County, the Dragons will be eager to take on one of Region 20's best teams.
Thursday sees another triple header, though this one is on the road. Men's and women's soccer head to Rockville for a double header against Division I Montgomery College at 5:00 and 7:00 PM. The Raptors are Region 20's only remaining Division I soccer program, with the men's team ranked in the top-20 nationwide. It will be a tough task for the Dragons for both games.
Meanwhile, volleyball heads to Purcellville, Virginia for an away contest with Patrick Henry College. The Dragons first played the Sentinels last season when they were a club team, and this will be the first match between the two since PHC moved to a collegiate program.
Friday, October 2 sees softball take center stage with the first annual HCC Alumni Game. After five years as a program, the Dragons are excited to welcome back former Dragons to Kiwanis Wallace Park for an exhibition game at 6:00 PM.
Saturday, October 3 is a big day for the Dragons with four major events. Women's basketball begins their 2026-27 season with a preseason clash in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Dragons will face two powerful Division I foes in Pensacola State College and Gulf Coast State College at 10:45 AM and 2:15 PM respectively. Men's soccer will host Garrett College at 2:30 PM as part of the Dragons annual Club Day event, with local youth teams packing the stands at Dragon Stadium. Finally, cross country completes the day with their final regular season meet of the season. The Dragons are set to travel to Salisbury University for the Don Cathcart Invitational at 2:30 PM.
