Dragons Dominate on Defense, Take Down Division I Allegany!

Cumberland, MD - Howard Community College's women's basketball team put together their most impressive defensive performance of the season on Wednesday night, as they took down the Division I Allegany College of Maryland Trojans 56-30!

Howard's defense forced 43 turnovers and held the Trojans to single digit points in every quarter as they built an early double-digit lead and coasted from their. Not a single Trojan was able to score in double digits against Howard's immense defensive pressure.

The Dragons leapt out to an early 16-6 lead thanks to excellent shooting from the perimeter. Savannah Price (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom) hit three first quarter threes to build up Howard's lead, while the defense forced eleven turnovers in the quarter. The Trojans defense managed to hold Howard in check in the second quarter, and thanks to solid rebounding, they were able to close in. However, Allegany could only manage to score eight total points in the quarter as they trailed the Dragons 26-14 at the half.

Howard's defense once again locked down in the third, holding the Trojans to just eight points. Solid work in the paint from Naomi Williams (Odenton, MD/Meade) kept Howard ahead, and the swarming Dragons defense forced 14 turnovers. Allegany finally got their turnover trouble's under control in the fourth, but ran into issues with fouls. Solid shooting at the free throw line from Emmanuella Oga (Randallstown, MD/Randallstown), combined with clutch shots from London Galbraith (Washington, D.C./Friendship Collegiate Academy) and Adriel Oga (Randallstown, MD/Randallstown) sealed the win for the Dragons.

Price led the Dragons with 13 points and three rebounds. Oga had an excellent night with eleven points, six rebounds, an assist, and one steal. Naomi Williams (Odenton, MD/Meade) added eight points and four rebounds, while Adriel Oga (Randallstown, MD/Randallstown) had seven points and two boards. Galbraith scored five points in her first start of the semester, while Jolie Hamilton (Baltimore, MD/Forest Park) scooped up four rebounds and three blocks.

The Dragons next face a tough task as they host Division I powerhouse Monroe University on Sunday, February 15 at 12:00 PM.
