Columbia, MD - The last week of August was a week to remember for the Howard Community College Dragons. Men's soccer scored 15 goals across two games, while women's soccer won their first game since 2024. Volleyball wrapped up their preseason an impressive 10-0, and now look ahead to the start of the regular season this week.

This first week of September is a light week, featuring only four games for the Dragons. The action starts Tuesday with a triple-header of contests, as men's and women's soccer head to McHenry, Maryland to face Garrett College, while volleyball heads to Bel Air, Maryland, to face Harford Community College.

Women's soccer will kick off the day at 3:00 PM. The Dragons had yet to beat Garrett in three previous meetings, but have played well against the Lakers in all of those contests. Their 0-0 tie in 2023 was the closest the Dragons have come to taking down their rival. Fresh off their first win of the season, the Dragons will be yearning for another taste of victory.

Men's soccer will take the field at 5:00 PM for their shot at the Lakers in just the second meeting between the two clubs. Howard player Garrett last year in what was the first ever game for the Lakers' men's soccer program. It was a resounding 7-0 win for the Dragons, with freshman Denny Mora scoring four goals himself.

Volleyball officially kicks off their season on Tuesday night against Harford Community College. Last year, the Dragons bested Harford late in the season to snap a nine-game losing streak against the Fighting Owls. The win also clinched a playoff berth for the Dragons. Harford played a tough opening series against several nationally-ranked junior colleges in Palatka, Florida last weekend, and will be a tough test for the Dragons in their opener.

Wednesday will see the week wrap up with a volleyball clash against Harrisburg Area Community College at 6:00 PM. This will be the first ever meeting between the Dragons and the Hawks, and will be a tough matchup for Howard one night after facing Harford. The Hawks have started the season 0-2 and will be looking to get their first win of the season on home soil, so the Dragons will have their work cut out for them.
