Rough Night For Rocket Leaguers

Columbia, MD - Neither of the Howard CC Rocket League teams were able to pull out a win as Team 2 fell to Carroll University with Team 1 suffering their first conference loss of the year in a battle against undefeated University of Montana.

Team 2 got the night started against a strong Carroll University team and were quickly shut out in the first two games 4-0 and 5-0. The Dragons put up a great fight in the third game as Oscar Minota (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) got Howard on the board with a slicing shot. With Howard still down 2-1 and just a minute remaining, Josh Leiva (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) followed up his own long range shot to tap in from point blank range to tie the game. Just 12 seconds later, a long aerial shot by Minota was expertly placed into the top corner to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead with just 46 seconds left. Unfortunately, Carroll University answered back with the tying goal with 30 seconds remaining in regular time and went on to score the golden goal winner two minutes into overtime.

Team 1 knew they had their work cut out for them in the battle of the only two remaining undefeated teams in the NECC Challenger Division. The University of Montana came out aggressive early, but it was Logan Ghandi (/) who broke through first as he flew through the air to guide the ball in. After the Grizzlies tied the game shortly thereafter, Ghandi again scored for Howard on an impossible angled shot from the corner into the side netting with 90 seconds left. All three Dragons nested in their own goal for the rest of the time as they made a combined seven fantastic saves before Ghandi completed his hat trick to seal the game for Howard. The University of Montana fired back with a vengeance as they stifled Howard 5-0 in game two. Game three saw the goals continue to fly for the Grizzlies despite Howard getting their offense going with Ghandi scoring two more goals set up by Akaash Patel (/) and Jeremy Hotchkiss (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) adding a goal but falling 7-3. With their backs against a wall, Howard was unable to fight back in game four as Montana shut the Dragons out 5-0 and took the match 3-1.

Team two will be featured on the NECC broadcast in their match against California State Dominguez Hills on Friday, October 23 at 8 PM while Team 1 takes a shot at Becker College at 7:30 PM.
