Columbia, MD - The Dragons League of Legends Gold Team stumbled early before making a dramatic comeback to upset Randolph Macon College in a thrilling 2-1 match.
The first game of the best of three series was dominated by the Yellow Jackets as they knocked out the Dragons 30 times compared to just eight for Howard in a one-sided game one.
Game two saw Howard CC fall behind early as it looked like it could be a repeat of game one, but the Dragons started a comeback as a lot of action in the middle with
Andrew Wells (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) and
Minh Dang (Laurel, MD/Laurel) starting to turn the tide. With the game 27 minutes in and as even as it could be, a triple elimination by
Gene Patrick Dones (Laurel, MD/Laurel)Â led a massive push that tipped the game heavily in favor of Howard. Two minutes later, another 5v5 team battle saw the Dragons clear out the entire Randolph Macon side with Dones leading the team in a flawless 11 eliminations and zero deaths thanks also to the excellent support of
Chris Schuyler (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake).
Randolph Macon got out to another great start in the deciding game three wth six early eliminations with two of the Yellow Jackets getting fed in mid and jungle along with a failed bottom battle for Howard. The Dragons attempted to start another battle in the bottom lane that turned south for Howard at first, but Wells made a fantastic individual effort to win a 1v2 fight to prevent the Yellow Jackets from growing their lead. The first big battle in the river saw Randolph Macon get ahead decisively as they were ahead 14-5.
Samuel Danchik (Woodbine, MD/Mount St. Joseph)Â expertly initiated a fight in the middle of the map as Howard cleared out three of their opponents and then turned around to take out Baron Nashor to even the game. After that was a slew of big team battles that saw neither side take a clear advantage in a constant slugfest of evenly matched opponents. The Dragons attempted push after push, being repelled three times before the fourth time going through the bottom lane finally going all the way to win the three hour marathon match.
The Dragons' Maroon Team won their game one against Upper Iowa University before the remainder of the match had to be postponed until Tuesday, October 13 at 5 PM. The Gold Team will next face off with local rivals Hood College at 8:30 PM on Thursday, October 15.
