Columbia, MD - In the first ever tournament for the newly formed Mid-Atlantic Esprots Conference (MAEC), the Dragons of Howard Community College were able to win the championship in the one day marathon event.
In the first round, the Dragons were able to slog out a 2-1 win in the best of three series against George Washinton University. A drawn out slug fest in game one saw the Dragons come from behind after a bad start to take the lead. Howard fell behind early again in game two and were not able to climb out of the hole as the Colonials tied up the match. Game three saw the Dragons clean up all of their errors and simply dominate the deciding game to take the match.
In round two, the Dragons took on Catholic University in a one game match as the Cardinals took advantage of an aggressive Howard side to send the Dragons to the loser's bracket of the tournament.
Taking on George Washington University again in the one game match of the loser's bracket, Howard CC went all in with a strong early push and took control to earn their way into the grand finals.
Going up against Catholic University again, the tournament format had the grand finals as a best of three match, but the Dragons went into the match down 0-1 due to the loss in the earlier round. In the first game, Howard crushed Catholic from start to finish with a clean game where the result was never in doubt. In the deciding game of the grand finals, an unreal game by
Abiola Monk (Ellicott City, MD/Wilde Lake) as an 11/0/5 K/D/A with
Andrew Wells (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) contributing 10 knockouts. Support specialist
