Columbia, MD – A strong team effort by the #5 seed Howard CC League of Legends Gold Team (4-3) earned them a win in the New England Collegiate Conference quarterfinals, defeating #4 seed Mount St. Mary's (5-3) 2-0 in the best of three match.
Game one was a very even affair for the first 17 minutes before a big quadra-kill in a one-sided battle in the river started a snowball effect that saw the Dragons get knocked out just once over the last 10 minutes of the game. After another battle for Baron Nashor that was dominated by the Dragons, Howard took game one with one big push down the middle lane as they led knockouts 24-7 in a dominating display.
The second game started out with The Mount taking the early lead, winning multiple battles around the bottom lane to get ahead. At the 19 minute mark, a quick knockout of the Dragons support hero forced Howard into a 4v5 battle, but emerged spectacularly on top of the crucial turning point. While the top and middle lanes held their ground, a big push on bottom wiped out Mount St. Mary's defensive capabilities. One last battle towards the top lane that Howard CC won decisively allowed the Dragons to make a strong push to end the game and the match.
The Gold Team will advance to the semifinals where they will face #1 seed Newberry College (7-0) on Thursday, November 19 at 5 PM in an NECC broadcasted match. The Dragons' Gold Team lost to Newberry College in the regular season opener 2-0 on September 24.
