Columbia, MD - The pair of Howard Community College League of Legends teams combined to win three matches during the NECC conference placement tournament as they kicked off their first ever season.

The Dragons Gold Team won their season opener in a commanding display over the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in a quick 25 minute match that saw Howard out-slay the Vaqueros 26-7 led by Minh Dang (Laurel, MD/Laurel) with 15 with Daniel Finke (Laurel, MD/DeMatha) had five kills and 10 assists with zero deaths. The Gold Team followed that up with another strong win against Mount St. Mary's as they once again took control thanks to the jungler Dang with 12 kills as the team led The Mount 26-12 in kills.

The Maroon team kicked off day one of the placement tournament with a close loss to Valparaiso University before bouncing back to crush Rio Grande Valley with Gene Patrick Dones (Laurel, MD/Laurel) racking up 24 knock outs, Abiola Monk (Ellicott City, MD/Wilde Lake) had 17, and Duy Phuong Nguyen (Kurland, Norway/Mailand videregående Skole) added 15.

Day two of the placement tournament was a struggle for both Dragon teams as the Gold Team fell to Randolph-Macon and Central Methodist University while Maroon Team dropped games to Northcentral Technical College and Carroll University.

Both teams will start their regular season on Thursday, September 17 as the Gold Team takes on Monroe College and the Maroon Team will have a rematch with Rio Grande Valley at 9 PM.
