Columbia, MD - The Dragons won a dramatic game one, but ultimate fell to powerhouse New Mexico State University 3-1 in the match.
The Aggies scored an early goal to jump ahead, but a great aerial pass from
Akaash Patel () set up
Jeremy Hotchkiss (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) to tie it at 1-1. New Mexico State regained the lead, but a shot from beyond half field by
Logan Ghandi () knotted back up again. With a little over a minute remaining, Patel flew into the air for a long range goal to take a 3-2 lead which proved to be the round one winner for the Dragons.
New Mexico State turned up the heat in round two, as they scored the first two goals but were denied but a quartet of fantastic saves by Howard. Ghandi was able to get one back as he turned a great defensive play into a counter attack goal, but the Dragons couldn't find the tying goal as they dropped round two 2-1.
Howard struggled to get their way back into the match as they lost a tough round three 4-2 before getting shutout 4-0 in round four as they lost the match 3-1.
Ghandi led the way with 1686 points in the match thanks to 12 saves while Patel was close behind with 1451 points with three assists leading the team.Â
The Dragons will get back into NECC conference play on Friday, September 25 as they take on California State Dominguez Hills and the University of Montana at 7:30 PM.
