West Chester, PA - The Howard Community College Dragons competed in their second and final regular season meet of the 2025 cross country season last Saturday with a solid showing at the WCU Golden Ram Invite.
Both teams performed well in Saturday's meet, with the men's team coming home sixth overall and the women's team finishing ninth overall. The results match the team scores from the season opening meet earlier this month in Salisbury.
Individually,
Samuel Venegas (Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) cracked the top-20 for the best result this year for the Dragons. Venegas was 19th in the men's 5000m race with a time of 17:54.1, his best time yet.
Ben Fry (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) narrowly missed out on the top-20 with a 23rd place finish, setting a time of 18:24.5.
Matthew Calinda (Hanover, MD/Meade) was third fastest for the Dragons with a time of 19:54.5, bringing him home 36th.
On the women's side,
Aniya Clerisier (Orlando, FL/Wilde Lake) and
Katy Spence (Jessup, MD/Meade) led the way for HCC with a 29th and 30th place finish respectively. Clerisier set a 26:25.5, while Spence finished with a 26:25.8, losing to her teammate in a photo finish.
Taneya Watson (Bowie, MD/CMIT Academy) was third fastest with a time of 29:27.5, placing her 38th at the line.
The Dragons next partake in the Region 20 championship races on Saturday, October 25 at 11:00 AM! The men's team will look to defend their crown as Region 20 champions!
