Owings Mills, MD – The Howard Dragons track & field teams put in an improved effort in a number of events, earning progress at the Stevenson University Mustang Stampede Invitational. The men's team earned a third place finish with the women also taking third, narrowly finishing behind rivals Hagerstown CC.
Track:
Samone Haywood continued her push as one of the top female sprinters in the region, winning the 100m with a time of 12.35 with
Taneya Watson close behind in fourth at 12.61.
Katy Spence took another win in the women's 200m at 25.70 while Watson and Haywood were close behind at 27.14 and 27.66 respectively. Spence also took third in the 400m at 59.44.
On the men's side,
Ameer Mowad showed off his dominant form with another win in the 200m with a time of 21.23.
Matthew Calinda came in fifth at 22.12 while
Jaylen Etheridge scored in the seventh spot at 22.21.
Calinda really shined through in the 400m with a win at 48.24 in a strong showing for the sophomore.
Richard Saunders took third at 50.55 while
Evan Taylor took fourth at 50.66.
The men's 4x100 relay lowered their best time while inching closer to national qualification as the quartet of
Caleb Adams, Etheridge,
Demetrius Lewis, and Mowad finished with a time of 41.28, earning the gold in the event defeating the team from Hagerstown by a quarter of a second.
Jayden Gallion continued to dominate the 800m with a win at a time of 1:56.
Field:
Watson showed off her versatility, winning the women's long jump with a mark of 5.06m.
The men's side was highlighted by the efforts of Chase Price, who earned personal bests in the high jump (1.72m) and pole vault (2.90m), earning second place in both events.
Chancellor DeRosier also hit a personal best in the triple jump, taking second in the event at 14.10m.
Daniel Warner took second in the javelin throw at 38.81m.
