Shippensburg, PA - The Howard Community College Dragons' track & field team was hard at work last weekend, competing in both the Penn Relays and the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University.
The Dragons battled the elements in Shippensburg as the meet was hit by heavy rainfall. Despite the weather and a stacked field of four-year colleges, the Dragons performed well.
Jayden Gallion set a new personal record in the men's 800m race as the Dragons continue to improve towards nationals.
Track Highlights:
- Jayden Gallion set a new personal record in the men's 800m race. Gallion came home fourth overall with a time of 1:55.33. Ben Fry also took part in the race, finishing with a time of 2:16.86.
- Samuel Venegas nearly secured a top-ten in the men's 3000m race, coming home eleventh with a time of 10:13.31. Jason Winter was 13th for Howard with a time of 10:28.43.
- Rayne Ogans finished inside the top-25 in the men's 400m race, coming home 24th overall with a time of 52.81. Samuel Chukwuma finished second for Howard with a time of 57.54.
- Ogans led the Dragons in the men's 200m dash, finishing with a time of 23.28. Chukwuma finished second amongst the Dragons with a time of 23.77, while Jared Porter finished third for the team with a time of 27.33.
- Porter partook in the men's 100m dash, setting a time of 12.77.
Field Highlights:
- Chase Price finished twelfth in the men's high jump against tough competition, setting a distance of 1.60m.
- Following his gold medal in the Region 20 championships, Daniel Warner partook in the men's javelin once again. Warner set a max distance of 30.20m on his first throw.
- Chukwueloka Okafor continued improving in the men's shot put, setting a top distance of 8.46m across his three throws.
Up Next: The Dragons have one last regular season meet before the NJCAA Nationals, as they partake in the Liberty Twilight Qualifier in Lynchburg, Virginia on Tuesday, May 5.
