Philadelphia, PA - The Howard Community College Dragons' track and field program continued their excellent 2026 season last weekend at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
Led by excellent performances from freshman sprinter
Ameer Mowad and the relay teams, the Dragons broke another school record in the 4x400m relay. The meet saw some of the toughest competition the Dragons would face all season, with runners from major four year schools at all NCAA and NJCAA levels in attendence.
Highlights
- The Dragons broke their third school record of the season in the men's 4x400m relay race. The 3:17.84 set by Matthew Calinda, Caleb Adams, Evan Taylor, and Richard Saunders broke the previous school record and gave the Dragons a second-place finish in their Friday heat race. With the sixth fastest time, the Dragons qualified for the main event on Saturday, where the quartet finished sixth with a 3:23.17.
- Howard's 4x100m relay team put together an excellent run in their race, finishing fifth in their heat and tenth overall in the qualifiers. Ameer Mowad, Jaylen Etheridge, Caleb Adams, and Demetrius Lewis finished their day with a 41.50 time.
- Ameer Mowad continued his excellent freshman campaign with a strong showing in the men's 100m dash. Facing tough four-year competition, Mowad came home fourth in his heat race with a time of 10.39.
With a solid performance against tough four-year competition, the Dragons look ahead to the last major regular season meet of the season on May 5 at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier.
