Dragons Winning In The Classroom

Columbia, MD – The Howard Community College athletics department is proud to announce a program wide 2.62 GPA for the entirely virtual fall 2020 semester where the student-athletes combined to earn 1539 credits in arguably the most challenging academic semester of all time.

"Howard CC Dragon student-athletes performed amazingly well in a virtual academic environment again this fall," said Director of Athletics Erin Foley. "They faced personal and academic challenges unlike any we have ever seen and finished strong. They did all of this while also coping with the cancellation of fall and winter sport competitions due to COVID-19. We are so proud of them and thank them for their hard work and dedication to their academic studies. We also want to thank all of the Howard CC faculty and staff who helped see our student-athletes through these challenge."

Three teams finished with a 3.0 or higher GPA for the semester led by the women's soccer team with an astonishing 3.32 GPA in the fall. The women's basketball team as well as the Track & Field team compleded the semester with matching 3.06 GPAs. The men's basketball team was equally impressive with a strong 2.74 semester while the inaugural semester of Esports had a 2.50 GPA.

"I am very proud of all of our student-athletes and the strength of character they showed this semester," said Manager for Student-Athlete Academic Success Shannon Riley. "Dealing with an entire year of adversity, our Dragons rose to the occasion in the classroom and succeeded in their studies. I am delighted of all the hard work they put in this semester and it shows in their grades."
