St. Mary's City, MD - Howard Community College's track & field team had their best meet of the season last Saturday, as they captured the gold in four events at the Seahawk Invitational.
After impressing in their first few meets, the Dragons made a statement in St. Mary's City, taking eleven podium positions in nine different events. 13 Dragons set personal records, and two athletes set new season best results in a day to remember for the Dragons. With the Region 20 championships quickly approaching, the meet was a good tune-up for the Dragons as they look to defend their Region title.

Track Events:
- The first gold of the day went to Howard's Aniya Clerisier (Orlando, FL/Wilde Lake), who won the women's 200m ahead of teammate Samone Haywood (Columbia, MD/Hammond) in second. Clerisier finished with a time of 26.91, while Haywood set a personal record of 28.09 ion the event,
- The Dragons dominated the men's 400m, locking out four of the top five finishing positions. Matthew Calinda (Hanover, MD/Meade)Â set a personal record with his victory, taking home the gold with a 48.59. Aiden Moore (Beltsville, MD/St. Vincent Palotti) finished second with a personal record of 49.21. Larry Brent (Columbia, MD/St. Vincent Palotti) came hom in fourth with a 50.77, while Divine Rice (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) set a personal record with a 50.79 in fifth place. Rojae Campbell missed out on the top ten, but set a personal record of 52.88 in eleventh.
- Iyona Davis (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) won gold in the women's 400m, finishing with a personal record of 1:01.75 in her victory.
- Aniya Clerisier (Orlando, FL/Wilde Lake) finished third in the preliminary runs for the women's 100m, a preview to her podium finish in the main event. Clerisier set a time of 12.84 as she crossed the line in thrid place. Samone Haywood (Columbia, MD/Hammond) finished in sixth in both the preliminary run and the main event, setting a personal record in the main event with a 13.23.
- Nazeer England (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) got on the podium in the men's 200m with a personal record of 22.10. Emmanuel Addo (Columbia, MD/Hammond) also set a personal record of 22.36 as he crossed the line in sixth. A third Dragon would set a personal record, as Anthony Robinson (Greenbelt, MD/St. Vincent Palotti) recorded a time of 23.46.
- Brandon McMillen (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) finished third in the men's 1500m with a new personal record of 4:14.35.
- In the men's 100m preliminary runs, Emmanuel Addo (Columbia, MD/Hammond) set a season best with a 11.34, good enough for fifth place. Addo would se another season best in the main event, finishing just off the podium in fourth place with an 11.25.
- Ryan Thibaudeau (Fulton, MD/Reservoir) cracked the top ten in the men's 5000m with a time of 17:38.10.
Field Events:
- Fresh off his excellent performance in the heptathlon in Myrtle Beach, Pedro Egudu (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) won gold in the men's long jump, setting a season-best with a distance of 6.57 meters. Egudu would also finished top ten in the men's javelin throw, setting a personal record of 32.55 meters.
- Chukwueloka Okafor (Burtonsville, MD/Paint Branch) secured his first podium of the season, finishing third in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 28.22 meters. Okafor also finished top ten in the men's shot put, coming home seventh with a distance of 8.04 meters.
- Cheyenne Ellis (Eldersburg, MD/Century) lit up the charts with three new personal records in three different events. Ellis secured her first podium with a third in the women's shot put, scoring a distance of 9.96 meters. Ellis finished fourth in the women's discus throw, setting another personal record with a 26.77 meter throw. She wrapped up her afternoon with a fourth in the women's hammer throw, setting yet another personal record with a distance of 32.54 meters.
- Temiloluwa Akinsanya (Columbia, MD/Long Reach)Â cracked the top five in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 30.69 meters. She also made the top ten in the women's shot put with a distance of 8.53 meters.
The Dragons next host the two-day Mid-Atlantic JUCO Invitational on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 at Dragons Stadium! The overall winner will be crowned Region 20 champions for 2025!
